Why is the time incorrect when I record tasks in SOVA dispatch?
SOVA sets a cookie on your computer during login. The cookie contains data about your timezone. This allows the system to record the accurate time when recording Non Tour Tasks (NTT's) by referencing the time is should be in your timezone. This is intended to prevent incorrect times being recorded, for example if someone changes the PC time by going into your operating system settings.
Cookie removal
In a corporate environment, sometimes the network removes cookies set by websites like SOVA after a certain amount of time. The decision to remove cookies, and when this is done, is entirely determined by your IT department and SOVA has nothing to do with this. When this happens, if you are logged into SOVA, the time will revert to server time, which is UTC. Depending on where you are connecting in the world, recorded times may be off by an hour, or could be off up to several hours.
Additionally, when our development team pushes out new features and bug fixes in our web app this too, can cause cookies to be removed or reset. You always know when an update has been pushed out to our live server by a banner that is visible in the web dashboard for several days.
Fixing incorrect times in dispatch
Fortunately, fixing this issue is very easy. All you need to do is logout of the web application, and log back in. So how do you do that? Here are some "Don'ts" followed by some "Do's"
Don't
- Just close and reopen the web browser
- Just reboot the computer
- Just logout of your Windows session
Do
- Logout of SOVA, by clicking your name at the top right while logged into SOVA, and choose Logout from the menu. After, log back in from the SOVA login page.
- Every officer should logout of the website after the end of their shift, or when rotating from dispatch to roving patrol. This will prevent this issue in the future.
Below is the menu to logout of the SOVA web application:
