Why aren't my keys scanning?

The most common reason keys do not scan in SOVA is because the barcode ID is set incorrectly. With keys, you want to be sure the barcode ID is set to the Key Ring ID, and not the Equipment ID. The opposite is true for other types of equipment, where the equipment ID is the barcode ID. Why is that you may ask? Because keys are often part of a key set, where multiple keys are placed on a key ring. In the case of keys, the equipment ID for the key is usually the ID stamped into the side of the brass key, and this ID usually identifies the key itself and is used in the event the key needs to be re-cut during key replacement.
