Can I ship unopened alcohol back to a guest who left it while staying at our hotel?
Shipping alcohol back to a individual who left it behind while a guest at your hotel can be problematic and even illegal. While FedEx and UPS have licenses to ship alcohol, In some U.S. States, the shipping originator (you) are required to hold a valid license to ship alcohol. Further, SOVA is not authorized to ship alcoholic items so our platform cannot be used.
Carrier policies for shipping alcohol
- Beer, wine, and liquor may not be sent through the United States Postal Service
- While FedEx permits the shipment of alcohol, compliant labels cannot be generated through the SOVA platform as we are not authorized for alcohol shipping
- Must sign a FedEx Alcohol Shipping Agreement prior to shipping
- Must identify alcohol shipments in the description
- A label indicating "Alcohol" must be affixed to the package
- A government-issued ID is required for receipt, and there could be an additional charge for this service

- All shippers of wine must be licensed and authorized to ship according to the applicable federal or state laws and regulations of the origin and destination states and complete a UPS Agreement for Approved Wine Shippers
- UPS provides service for other alcoholic beverages (beer and alcohol) on a contract basis only
- May ship only to licensed consignees in certain U.S. States
- Cannot ship beer or alcohol to consumers
