Daily Activity Report

Daily Activity Report

The Daily Activity Report, or DAR for short, gives you an itemized list of tasks that your security team completed throughout the day. The report begins at 0000 and runs through 2359. The default view shows the current day, but you are able to go back and see prior daily activities, or even show multiple days in a single report.

Below is a DAR report from one of our clients:

  1. Allows officers to edit their comments for the current day. After the current day, the comments are locked and cannot be edited except by a property admin
  2. Advanced search by date range, activity type, officer name, remarks or location
  3. Our Send DAR feature allows you to send the DAR report within SOVA to a list of recipients. Be sure to read the article on adding recipients to the communication screen, so that you can populate your DAR distribution list.
  4. Downloads the report as a PDF for printing, emailing, saving as a backup copy, etc.
  5. Opens a popup bar chart showing when you are the busiest, hour by hour by assigning a point value to all activities recorded throughout the day
  6. A checkmark in this column implies that the activity requires a followup by management. A quick way to scan the report for significant happenings during the day
  7. The activity recorded. "NTT" is shorthand in SOVA for "Non-Tour Task". Clicking any blue text in SOVA opens a popup with additional information. In the case of the DAR report, shows recent history of the selected activity
  8. Text location added by the officer. SOVA attempts to get GPS coordinates when recording activities in SOVA, but if you are indoors, accuracy can suffer as this is a known limitation of GPS that it does not penetrate concrete and steel very well. For better positioning indoors, consider adding RFID buttons to your tasks.
  9. Any remarks entered by a dispatcher or mobile user regarding the task or activity. These can be edited per #1 above
  10. The "call sign" or initials of the user or officer that recorded the task.

TIP: Traditionally, property managers would request to be sent DAR reports as a way to stay updated on the security activities of the prior day. A DAR report can easily be 10-20 pages in length, if you run a 2-3 man shift and 3 shifts per day. A more efficient means to convey important information to the executive or leadership team at your property is to create a shift report, which compiles the important events of the shift (or day) and distills them down into a 1-2 page report. Your execs will appreciate you if you start sending this in place of the DAR that they are used to. Trust us. Give shift reports a try and never print or send another DAR report. Ever.
